Holiday Madness and More Monsters

I am glad the holidays are over. Really. It didn't feel very Christmasy to me this year. Time spent away from home with family was good. Although I got very sick Christmas day. Not cool., Now the husband is sick. Mason now has a cold. This family is a mess!

I am glad to be back in the sewing room to take some time for experimentation. I have a lot of cool fabric and trim to play with. I will be posting new stuff soonish. Also I will be starting a contest where a lucky winner could be the owner of a fun monster fridge magnet. Stay tuned!

Stuffed DJ Monsters and Hats

It's been a while. I've been swamped with other non-creative things lately. Although today I think I managed to figure out my headphone problem for my DJ monsters. I still have a lot to work on to get them completed, but so far it's been pretty fun.

I am also working on six hats for a friend of mine. I was having a hard time with sizing since I only have my own son's head to work with, but I think I've figured it out.

This week has kind of been a fog, with Thanksgiving around the corner. Photos of current projects soon.

Have a good holiday!

New Monster Eyes

I just received eyes from a different seller on etsy. i like these MUCH better than the previous. I am very excited to use these guys. my husband started talking about how to make LED lights to shine behind the eyes and when you press on them they would go on and off. not suitable for children ;) but adults wold love 'em!

I've been finding some new ideas for body shapes. Sometimes I just have monster block! Ray has agreed to draw some face ideas for me to try out.

our weather here in norcal has been unusually warm, mid 70s to 80s. Quite nice in mid November. Riding my bike around with Mason on the front has been quite delightful.

Hopefully more photos soon with what I'm up to.

Stuffed Monster Sisters

My sister requested a custom project for a friend of hers that just had a new baby. She also has a 3 year old daughter.I don't know what their names are yet. Any suggestions?

In other news the sewing room is shaping up nicely. Having no money to spend sparks the imagination to come up with solutions. Ray helped modify boxes from his work to become shelves for holding all of the fabric.

I got a ton of fabric samples from an interior design place. They were just going to throw it all away. I dug threw it and got a ton of cool fabric for free!! I just finished washing it and now the only hard part is deciding what to use!! Some of it is too cool to sell, I will have to make some things for myself ;)

Stuffed Monsters Get New Eyes

I received some new acrylic eyeballs today. Thought it would be cool to have some variety. They are hand painted and purchased here.

A couple of them have a tiny chip in them and I am wondering if it's worth replacing. I got 8 pairs for $12. My DJ friend just asked me to make a few DJ monsters for him, that should be a fun project.

A lot going on the past few days, I haven't even had time to write a brief update!! Five new monsters have been added to the store! I just finished a pillow size one, he's pretty cool and can be snuggled with. The only problem with the big ones is they take A LOT of fill. I switched to an eco-fill which is a little bit more expensive and softer so I will need to use more of it than the regular poly-fill.

Many people keep telling me they will want to buy things for the holidays which means I will need to get cracking! I may hold off on the name that monster contest until afterwards, we'll see.

Here's a new monster that was just posted

Back to the Grind

I have returned from a wedding in the Marin Headlands. What a joyful and very fun event. But now it's aback to work. Two monsters ready to be added and two ready to be stuffed. I must share some photos of the "studio" space.

The holidays are quickly approaching and I am having a hard time finding ways to ramp up the speed of production. It's tough juggling work, baby and sewing time. And of course from free time. I remember those days. My mom has offered to take Mason an evening a week and keep him overnight so will help things and give me and the husband a dat night every once in a while.

The wool pom pom hat sold! I made it from a wool sweater I got from the flea market. So cool. I had some adults ask if I could make them one from the same fabric.

The move of sewing stuff to the other room is almost complete. I've only made one monster for the last few days and he's not stuffed yet. sigh. I've got a lot of work to do!!

Slow Movin'

Since I got the labels I have been sewing them on by hand to all the monsters. I'll admit it's a pain in the ass but, they are looking pretty cool. I have three new guys to add and will hopefully get them up today.

My new sewing room is clear enough to start moving stuff into it. I don't get to take advantage of the entire room, but will have way more space there than where I am currently making stuff. It's quite horrible actually how the room is that I am in. Carpet and sewing are not friends. Nor is a 4 foot table to store, measure and sew on a productive thing.

It's a gorgeous day I may just have to take Mason out to the park.

to sell or not to sell?

I just finished this guy. I really like how he turned out, despite a friend of mine saying he looks like a couch. Whatever. I think he's pretty rad. I have more of this fabric and some similar to it that I could make to sell and keep this one.

My fabric labels came yesterday. They look awesome. I tried sewing one sticking out and it looked BAD, too big and bulky. So I decided to sew the label directly on the butt of the monsters it looks pretty good.

It's all kind of surreal how this is evolving. It's still fun so I'll keep making them. I've been having ideas of doing totes with a matching monster. and soon I may ave a name that monster contest the reward being well duh, a monster!!

Happy Saturday

Ramping Up

I am doing a collaboration with my lovely friend. She makes very cute wool britches and I am making monsters to match. There is already one completed here. I wasn't too fond of Benita, but she LOVED her and wanted to make matching pants. So I let her.

I just made this little guy to go with some new pants she is working on.

Hopefully he fits in the pocket she made.

I am wanting to start a flickr set with photos of people who have purchased their monsters and want to be included, I feel like it will be a cool way to showcase my work and people can see how much people love their little friends.

Monday has rolled around once again. I don't know why it's so tough to start the week. I've started creating more hats for the etsy store. The cold weather will soon be a comin', so little ears need to be kept warm!!

Mason and I rode down to the post office to ship out our 2nd sale. It's a gorgeous fall day. Looking forward to the changing color of the leaves, the fresh chilly air and doing more sewing when the evenings come at 5pm.
